Namgung Chan (courtesy name Yeoheon, pen name Changnang) is recorded as the 9th-generation descendant of the middle ancestor Deuk-hui. He topped the licentiate exam in 1477 and passed the civil examination in 1489, serving as a Yemungwan archivist, Hongmungwan official and others, and is said to have joined compiling the Veritable Records of Seongjong.
He became magistrate of Jeju in 1500 and Gangwon governor in 1504. The family continued through his sons Namgung Ik and Namgung Suk and grandson Namgung Chim. His birth and death years were not confirmed, and one source mentions exile and execution under Yeonsangun that other sources do not corroborate.
