Life & career

Yi Al-pyeong (李謁平) is handed down as the founding ancestor of the Gyeongju Yi clan. As chief of Alcheon Yangsanchon (閼川 楊山村), one of the Six Villages of Saro before the founding of Silla, he was one of the six village chiefs who took part in the elevation of Bak Hyeokgeose.

He is said to have been granted the surname Yi (李) in the year 32 (9th year of King Yuri of Silla), and his descendants carried on as the Gyeongju Yi clan seated at Gyeongju. The great late-Goryeo scholar Ikjae Yi Je-hyeon came from this family.

Descendants

His descendants took Gyeongju as their ancestral seat and produced figures such as Ikjae Yi Je-hyeon.
