Founding ancestor of the Gyeongju Yi clan (one of the six village chiefs of Silla)

Yi Al-pyeong is traditionally revered as the progenitor of the Gyeongju Yi clan. His courtesy name was Cheonseo and his pen name Pyoam; before the founding of Silla he was chieftain of Yangsan Village on the Alcheon, one of the Six Villages of Saro, and one of the six village chiefs who took part in enthroning Park Hyeokgeose. According to tradition, he presided over the Hwabaek council and was honored as a founding meritorious subject of Silla.
In 32 CE (the ninth year of King Yuri), when Yangsan Village was reorganized as Geuryang-bu, he is said to have been granted the surname Yi, and his descendants became the Gyeongju Yi clan. The great late-Goryeo scholar Yi Je-hyeon (pen name Ikjae) came from this lineage.
His descendants took Gyeongju as their ancestral seat and produced figures such as Ikjae Yi Je-hyeon.
