Yun Tak-yeon (尹卓然) had the courtesy name Sangjung (尙中) and the pen name Jungho (重湖). He passed the higher civil service examination in 1565 and entered official service, and in 1580 placed first in the special examination held at Gyeonghoeru. He passed through various offices such as magistrate of Dongnae, magistrate of Sangju, and governor of Gyeonggi.
For his contribution to the successful conclusion in 1590 of the Jonggye byeonmu (宗系辨誣), which corrected the mistakenly recorded genealogy of the Joseon royal house in Ming China, he was the following year enrolled as a third-class Gwangguk merit subject and enfeoffed as Lord of Chilgye (漆溪君). He served as third minister of rites, Minister of Punishments, and Minister of Taxation.
When the Imjin War broke out in 1592 and King Seonjo fled, he went to Hamgyeong Province, escorted Prince Gwanghae, and worked to recruit righteous armies and organize defense. He died in 1594. His posthumous title was Heonmin (憲敏).
