An Jun was a leading figure in the March 1919 independence demonstrations in Maegok-myeon, Yeongdong, North Chungcheong Province. When Ahn Gwang-deok returned from Seoul carrying a copy of the independence declaration and rallied fellow villagers including Kim Yong-seon, Ahn Byeong-mun, Jang Bok-cheol, Im Bong-chun, and Nam Do-hak, An Jun himself led the first cry of "Manse" (long live independence), spurring the crowd to join in.
On April 6, he joined roughly 150 people in marching on the Chupungnyeong military police post to demand the release of arrested comrades, for which he was arrested and sentenced to one year and four months in prison.
