An Mu fled to Manchuria and, as a leading officer of Korean independence organizations, took part in the Battle of Bongodong before dying in combat against Japanese police.
Born An Byeong-ho in 1883 in Jongseong, North Hamgyong Province, and known by the pen name Cheongjeon, he organized the Korean Northern Route Military Command in 1920 together with Choi Jin-dong's forces, under the overall command of Hong Beom-do, and personally directed the fighting alongside Choi Jin-dong from the highest peak overlooking Bongodong during the battle. In October of that year he also took part in the Battle of Cheongsanri with Kim Jwa-jin and Hong Beom-do, defeating Japanese forces. In 1923 he was elected a national representative at the National Representatives' Conference in Beijing. In 1924, he was shot and captured during a Japanese police raid in Yongjeong; he refused Japanese medical treatment and died shortly after.
