Military commander of the mid-Joseon period; merit subject of the Imjin War

Bae Heung-rip (裵興立, 1546–1608) was a military commander of the mid-Joseon period. Having passed the military examination, he served as magistrate of several districts and as a naval commander.
During the Imjin War (Japanese invasions of Korea) he served under Admiral Yi Sun-sin (Chungmu-gong) as a Jobangjang (assistant commander) and others, taking part in major naval battles such as Hansando and Myeongnyang and rendering distinguished service. For this he was enrolled as a Seonmu merit subject (宣武功臣).
