The Seongju Bae clan (星州 裵氏) takes as its ancestral seat Seongju in North Gyeongsang Province. Since Seongsan is the old name for Seongju, the clan is also called the Seongsan Bae clan (星山 裵氏). Its founder is said to be Bae Wi-jun (裵位俊).
The most representative figure of the Seongju Bae clan is Bae Geuk-ryeom (裵克廉), a first-class merit subject in the founding of Joseon (開國功臣). He took part in the return of the army at Wihwado and played a leading role in enthroning Yi Seong-gye and opening the new dynasty; he rose to Left State Councillor of the Chancellery (文下左侍中) and was enfeoffed as Lord of Seongju (星州伯). Another notable figure is Bae Heung-rip, a military commander who served under Yi Sun-sin during the Imjin War.
