Bae Seung-mu is said to have passed the civil examination in 1586 and served as Jeongja of the Seungmunwon. He is said to have died fighting alongside figures such as Kim Deok-ryeong and Kim Cheon-il during the Imjin War and to have been posthumously made Left Senior Secretary. Sources differ on whether he fell at Jinju Fortress or Jinyang, and the year of death should be verified.
