Park Jun-kyu was a politician from Daegu who, after serving as a professor at Seoul National University and president of the Busan Ilbo, entered politics. Beginning as a member of the 5th National Assembly, he was elected over many terms, serving nine terms as a member of the assembly.
He held major ruling-party positions such as chairman of the policy committee of the Democratic Republican Party and representative member of the Democratic Justice Party. He served as speaker of the National Assembly in the first halves of the 13th and 14th assemblies and the latter half of the 15th.
Through his long parliamentary career he is counted as a representative senior, many-term politician in Korea's modern political history.
