Park Paeng-nyeon, courtesy name Insu and pen name Chwigeumheon, passed the civil service examination and served as a Hall of Worthies scholar involved in several compilation projects, rising to Second Minister of Punishments.
In 1456 he conspired with Seong Sam-mun, Ha Wi-ji, and others to restore the deposed King Danjong to the throne, but the plot was betrayed by Kim Jil. Under King Sejo's personal interrogation and brutal torture, he reportedly refused to address Sejo as king, calling him only 'Your Excellency,' and ultimately died a martyr. His extended family was punished for the plot.
Renowned for his excellence in both literature and calligraphy, he was called a 'master of all accomplishments.' As one of the Sayuksin ('Six Martyred Ministers'), he is enshrined at their tomb in Noryangjin and was posthumously promoted to Minister of Personnel. A grandson through his second son, who had gone into hiding to escape the purge, later turned himself in during King Seongjong's reign and was granted the name Park Il-san; his descendants continue to this day.

He was the only one of the Six Martyred Ministers whose male line continued: his posthumously born grandson Bak Il-san survived and carried on the Suncheon Bak clan.
