Park Su-byeong, of the Hamyang Park clan, was born in 1894 in Pyeongbok-dong, Yangmok-myeon, Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang Province. On April 9, 1919, as the March First Movement spread, he climbed a hill with fellow villagers of Pyeongbok-ri and shouted for Korean independence to rouse anti-Japanese sentiment, for which he was arrested and sentenced to ninety strokes of the cane.
He lived out his later years in his hometown and died in 1979. He was posthumously awarded a Presidential Commendation in 1992, and his remains were enshrined in the patriots' section of the National Daejeon Cemetery in 2008.
