Park Dong-wan was an independence activist who was active as a Methodist pastor and journalist. During the March 1st Movement of 1919, he participated in the Declaration of Independence as one of the 33 national representatives from the Christian community, and was sentenced to two years in prison for violating the Security Act and the Publication Act.
After his release, he continued his journalistic work as chief editor of the Christian Messenger (Gidok Sinbo) and served as a director of the Singanhoe, carrying out the national movement. He was later dispatched to Hawaii, where he ministered for about twelve years and led the overseas Korean community. In 1962 he was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Presidential Medal.
