Kim Jong-seop (金鍾涉, also recorded as Kim Jong-seop 金鍾燮) was born on July 12, 1893, in Guryong-dong, Dong-myeon, Chosan County, North Pyongan Province. Around July-August 1920 he joined the Daehan Dongnip-dan (Korean Independence Corps), founded in Sanyuanpu, Liuhe County, Manchuria by Park Jang-ho, Jo Maeng-seon, and Baek Sam-gyu, and took on financial duties, helping raise funds for the independence movement.
On the night of October 24, 1920, together with fellow members Kim Yeo-jeong, Seok Hwan-ok, Kim Il-bong, and Park Chan-bong, he raided the township office in Guryong-dong, Nam-myeon, Chosan County, to seize funds for the movement. While Kim Yeo-jeong fired shots from a hill behind the nearby police substation to distract the officers, the others entered the office and threatened the accountant, but finding no cash on hand, they set fire to the office's documents and the building itself.
He was arrested in June 1921 and, on September 26 of that year, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Sinuiju branch of the Pyongyang District Court. After his appeal was rejected, his sentence was commuted to 11 years and 3 months in 1923, and he was released on parole on June 3, 1932. His later life and date of death remain unknown. The government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriot's Medal, in 2016.
