Life & career

He served as vanguard commander under Mun Seok-bong's militia in the 1895 Eulmi Righteous Army uprising.

In September 1895, when former Jinjam magistrate Mun Seok-bong raised the Yuseong Righteous Army to avenge the assassination of Empress Myeongseong, Gim Mun-ju, a local gentry figure from Gongju, joined alongside Oh Hyeong-deok of Okcheon and Song Do-sun of Hoedeok, serving as vanguard commander. The militia gathered several hundred fighters at Yuseong market, armed themselves by raiding the Hoedeok county armory, and fought government troops at Waya-dong near Gongju after passing through Jinjam and Gongam.
