King Suro (金首露王) is the founding ancestor of the Gimhae Kim clan and the king who founded the state of Garakguk (Geumgwan Gaya). According to the "Record of Garakguk" in the Samguk Yusa, in the year 42 he was the first to be born from among six eggs that descended upon Gujibong (Turtle Peak) and became king.
He took as his queen Heo Hwang-ok (許黃玉), said to have come from the state of Ayuta in India, and had several sons, whose descendants carried on as the Gimhae Kim clan seated at Gimhae. The renowned Silla general Kim Yu-sin is also handed down as a descendant of the Geumgwan Gaya royal house. The Gimhae Kim clan is today the most populous surname group in Korea.
The Tomb of King Suro (a Historic Site) is located in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province.
His descendants carried on as the Gimhae Kim clan, and Kim Yu-sin is also handed down as being of that line.
