Kim Seok-chang (1876–1950) of the Gyeongju Kim clan, born in Cheolsan, North Pyongan Province, became a Presbyterian minister in 1901 and moved to Seoncheon the following year, where he combined pastoral work with the independence movement. In September 1920 he was arrested for supporting members of the Righteous Army General Headquarters (Gwangbokgun Chongyeong) suicide squad who threw a bomb at the Seoncheon police station, and in 1921 he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
After his release he served as moderator of the North Pyongan Presbyterian General Assembly in 1928. Following liberation he was active on the Seoncheon county people's committee, but during the Korean War in 1950 he was arrested and executed by North Korean forces. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Independence Medal, in 1963.
