Kim Su-min, from Jangdan, Gyeonggi Province, was a righteous army leader of commoner origin who had taken part in the Donghak Peasant Revolution and was skilled in making gunpowder and ammunition.
In August 1907 he raised a righteous army in Jangdan and joined the Righteous Army of the Thirteen Provinces later that year in its advance on Seoul. In 1908 he formed a united force along the Imjin River with Heo Wi and Yi Eun-chan, fighting in northeastern Gyeonggi, Ganghwa, and Gaeseong; in March 1909 he reorganized his forces under the title of commander-in-chief and quartermaster of the Righteous Army Headquarters.
Captured by a Japanese informant while hiding in Goyang in August 1909, he was executed by hanging at Seodaemun Prison on December 17, 1909.
