Founder of the Hojang-gong branch

Gim Wi-yeong was the founding ancestor of the Hojang-gong branch (戶長公派) of the Gyeongju Gim clan. In the early Goryeo period he served as hojang, the chief local official (headman) of Gyeongju, and the great scholar Gim Bu-sik, compiler of the Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms), descended from this branch.
According to the biography of his great-grandson Gim Bu-il in the History of Goryeo, after King Taejo Wang Geon renamed the former Silla capital Geumseong to Gyeongju, he appointed Gim Wi-yeong as its regional governor (juchang). His line continued through his grandson Gim Geun to the brothers Gim Bu-pil, Gim Bu-il, and Gim Bu-sik, the last of whom became one of Goryeo's most renowned statesmen and historians as chief compiler of the Samguk Sagi.
