Guk Dong-wan (1867-1909), of the Damyang Guk clan, was an anti-Japanese righteous-army leader from Jangseong, South Jeolla. Wikipedia and the Academy of Korean Studies' who's-who give his years as 1867-1909. When the army uprisings began after the 1907 Korea-Japan Agreement he joined Gi Sam-yeon's force, and from January 1908 became a commander in his own right, fighting Japanese troops and raising funds.
He was arrested on 6 September 1909, held at the Gochang gendarmerie, moved to the Yeonggwang gendarmerie and executed on 10 September; Wikipedia adds that he resisted torture to the end. For this service he was posthumously awarded the Patriotic Medal in 1991.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs' own list was not opened directly, and the award rests on the two encyclopedic sources. Specific battle areas and unit sizes were not confirmed.
