The 56th and last king of Silla, personal name Kim Bu
| Life | 897 ~ 978 |
| Era | 신라 말 |
| Clan | 경주 김씨 |
King Gyeongsun (r. 927-935), personal name Kim Bu, was the 56th and last king of Silla, of the Gyeongju Kim clan. When Gyeonhwon of Later Baekje raided the capital in 927 and killed King Gyeongae, Gyeonhwon installed him on the throne. The 897 birth year was assigned by later Joseon genealogists and is uncertain.
With the state in decline he surrendered to Wang Geon of Goryeo in 935, ending Silla. Some princes, including Crown Prince Maui, are said to have refused and gone into Mount Geumgang.
In Goryeo he married Wang Geon's eldest daughter Princess Nangnang, was titled Duke Jeongseung and King of Nangnang, and was appointed sasimgwan of Gyeongju, regarded as the origin of that system. He died in Gaegyeong in 978; his tomb is the only Silla royal tomb outside Gyeongju, in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi. Descent through the Goryeo general Kim Bang-gyeong to the Andong Kim line is claimed, though some genealogical records are considered later additions.
After Gyeonhwon's invasion killed King Gyeongae in 927, he set Kim Bu, King Gyeongae's maternal cousin, on the throne.
In 935 he yielded the state to Wang Geon and Silla fell. Crown Prince Maui is said to have opposed this and gone to Mount Geumgang.
He married Princess Nangnang, was made Duke Jeongseung, became sasimgwan of Gyeongju, and died in Gaegyeong in 978.
The only Silla royal tomb outside Gyeongju, it lies in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi, and is a designated historic site. A Joseon-era stele reading 'Tomb of King Gyeongsun of Silla' stands there.
Children traditionally include Crown Prince Maui, Kim Seok, Beomgong, Princess Deokju and Queen Heonsuk, though some are disputed. Queen Heonsuk became consort of King Gyeongjong of Goryeo.
