Yi Byeong-chun headed the March 1st Movement in Jeollabuk-do and was twice imprisoned for remitting funds to the Provisional Government.
Born in Imsil, Jeollabuk-do, he joined Cheondoism and, as the movement's provincial chief in 1919, traveled to Seoul to take part in the Tapgol Park manifestation. Liaising with Park Jun-seung, one of the 33 national representatives, he carried the Declaration of Independence and Korean flags from Seoul to the Cheondoist parish in Jeonju, for which he was arrested and sentenced to three years. After release he continued collecting funds to send to the Shanghai Provisional Government, was arrested again, and died in 1935. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1990.
