Lee Gang-hun fought alongside Kim Jwa-jin and later, with Baek Jeong-gi, plotted to assassinate Japan's minister to China. On March 17, 1933, having learned that Japanese minister Ariyoshi Akira would host a banquet with Chinese and Japanese political and military figures at the Yukusanteo restaurant in Shanghai's Hongkou district, he plotted an attack with Baek Jeong-gi and Won Sim-chang. The plot was discovered just before it could be carried out, and he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Nagasaki court. After liberation he later served as head of the Korea Liberation Association, and in 1977 he was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Independence Medal.
