Lee Gang-hyeok (1884-1964) was a Seoul businessman who built a fortune in the textile trade before serving as head of the Gyeongseong and Seoul financial cooperatives for over 35 years. He also worked as a philanthropist, founding and running kindergartens and charitable homes, including the Joyang Kindergarten and the Gyeongseong Jahyewon relief home, and was elected to the Gyeongseong city council.
He is nonetheless listed as a collaborator with Japanese colonial rule: he served as a director of the Daejeong Chinmokhoe (a pro-Japanese business association) and, after the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, as a councilor of the National General Mobilization Corporation and a probation officer at the Gyeongseong Probation Office. He was accordingly included in the government's Report on Pro-Japanese Collaborators and the Minjok Munje Institute's Dictionary of Pro-Japanese Biography.
