Yi Geon-chun (1873–1936) studied at the Royal English School before entering government service in 1895, working as a translator and secretary in the Foreign Office. After the 1910 annexation he served as head of the foreign affairs bureau and then spent about 14 years as a councillor (chan-ui) and, after the 1921 reorganization, three more years as a full councillor (chamui) of the Governor-General's Central Advisory Council.
