He raised funds for the independence cause as a member of the Korean Independence Youth Corps and died in a firefight with Japanese police. After his service with the Youth Corps, he moved to the Restoration Army Command to continue the struggle. On March 26, 1922, he and fellow fighter Kim Byeong-ryeol were killed in an engagement with eight Japanese police, including the chief of Changseong Police Station in North Pyeongan, at Samchaja in Kwandian County, China.
That October, his sacrifice was commemorated at a joint memorial service for 45 martyrs held in Kwandian County.
