Yi Jae-myeon (1845-1912), eldest son of the Heungseon Daewongun and elder brother of Emperor Gojong, rose through senior court posts under his father's regency, eventually serving as Minister of War and Minister of Personnel; after the Korean Empire's founding he was made Prince Wanheung and elevated to Prince Imperial Heungchin in 1910.
On August 22, 1910, he attended the meeting on the Japan-Korea annexation treaty as the imperial family's representative and consented to it, receiving a 830,000-yen state annuity bond soon after — though his descendants have argued the consent was coerced. He died in September 1912 at Unhyeongung palace from kidney inflammation and uremia; his son was Prince Yeongseon Yi Jun-yong.
He was first buried in Gimpo and reinterred in 1921 at Changhyeon-ri, Hwado-myeon, Yangju.
Initially buried in Gimpo in 1912, his remains were reinterred in 1921 at Changhyeon-ri, Hwado-myeon, Yangju, Gyeonggi Province.
His son was Prince Yeongseon Yi Jun-yong (1870-1917).
