Yi Man-hyeong (李萬馨, 1899–1923) taught at Osan School in Jeongju, North Pyongan Province from 1921 to 1923 while organizing a secret anti-Japanese society, before fleeing to Manchuria. There he fought Japanese police as a member of the Gwangbokgun Chongyeong (Korean Liberation Army Headquarters) and the Daehan Uigunbu, independence-army organizations formed in coordination with the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.
In February 1923, when a monarchist faction split from the Daehan Tongeuibu to form a reorganized Daehan Uigunbu, he was installed as its leader, but on May 18 of that year he was assassinated by a Japanese secret agent at Yaoling in Fushun, southern Manchuria. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriots' Medal, in 2011.
