Lee Myeong-ryong (pen name Chunheon, 1873-1956), from Cheolsan in North Pyongan Province, converted to Christianity in 1892 and became active in founding schools. He was imprisoned in the 1911 "105-Man Incident," and in 1919, at the urging of Choe Nam-seon and Yi Seung-hun, joined the March First Movement as one of the 33 National Representatives representing the Presbyterian church, for which he served another two-year prison term.
After liberation he helped Cho Man-sik found the Korean Democratic Party in South Pyongan Province and was involved in establishing Pyeongdong Middle School, but after his second son was arrested and disappeared under Soviet military rule for anti-communist activity, he fled to the South in 1947. He later served as a director of the Korean chapter of the Asian Peoples' Anti-Communist League, and was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Grand Order, in 1962.
