Yi Seung-jae (1873–1910) was the eldest son of righteous army leader Yi Gang-nyeon and joined his father's anti-Japanese militia from 1895. After his father's capture in 1908, he organized a suicide squad with Kim Sang-tae to assassinate Itō Hirobumi in Seoul, but the plot was discovered and he was arrested before escaping from prison. While planning further resistance, he was poisoned by an agent of the pro-Japanese Iljinhoe and died soon after while receiving treatment in Daejeon. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1990.
