Queen Inseon (born 25th day of the 12th lunar month 1618, 30 Jan 1619; died 1674) was the daughter of Jang Yu and Lady Kim, and her maternal grandfather was Kim Sang-yong, who died at Ganghwa in the Manchu war. She married Grand Prince Bongnim (later Hyojong) in 1631 and spent about nine years with him as a hostage in Shenyang after the war. She became queen when Hyojong took the throne in 1649 and queen dowager when her son Hyeonjong acceded in 1659. She had one son and six daughters, and some of her Hangul letters to her daughters survive in the Sukmyeong Sinhancheop. Her death sparked the ritual dispute (Yesong) between Westerners and Southerners over the mourning period.
