Jeong Sa-sin (鄭士信) was a mid-Joseon civil official, seat Cheongju, courtesy name Jabu, pen names Maechang (梅窓) and Singok. A great-grandson of Jeong Yun-so, he was the grandson of the licentiate Jeong Eon-bo and son of Jeong Du; his mother was a daughter of Gwon Sik of the Andong Gwon. He was the younger brother of Jeong Sa-seong. His dates were not confirmed here.
He passed the civil examination in 1582 and served in many posts including compiler, professor, censor, remonstrator, magistrate of Yean, and secretary of Military Affairs and Rites. In the Imjin War of 1592, while escorting the king to Pyongyang as a censor, he was dismissed for straying at Banso Pavilion.
He then raised volunteers in Gangwon and defeated many Japanese, becoming Gyeongsang inspector in 1594 and magistrate of Seonsan in 1595; he passed a second civil examination in 1609. After going to Ming in 1610, he was recorded among the Gwangguk wonjong merit class for the Seongye byeonmu mission, and rose to judge of the Slave Bureau and magistrate of Miryang and Gyeongsang central defense commander. He was posthumously made vice-minister of Rites, and left the Maechangjip.
In the early Imjin War he followed the king's flight to Pyongyang as a censor but was dismissed for straying at Banso Pavilion. He soon went to Gangwon, raised volunteers and defeated many Japanese, and was restored in 1594 as Gyeongsang inspector. It is a case of atoning through volunteer service after being removed from office.
After passing a second examination in 1609 he went to Ming the next year as a New Year envoy and was recorded in the Gwangguk wonjong merit class for the Seongye byeonmu mission, understood as related to the diplomatic effort to correct the misrecorded genealogy of Joseon's royal house in Ming records. If his elder brother Jeong Sa-seong made his name as a scholar, Sa-sin was an official on the scene of the Imjin War and diplomacy.
The location of his grave was not confirmed.
