Ma Eung-bang (d. 1597) was a mid-Joseon figure of the Jangheung Ma clan, courtesy name Jeongsuk and pen name Yongam. His birth year is unknown and he died in 1597. He entered office by hereditary privilege and served as magistrate of Jinan and Namwon garrison officer with the rank of Tonghun Daebu, and is said to have governed well in Jinan.
He fought prominently as a volunteer in the Imjin War of 1592 and died fighting the Japanese at Namwon in the second invasion of 1597. He was posthumously made Vice Minister of Personnel, and in 1807 (Sunjo 7) posthumously made Left Royal Secretary and Royal Lecture Councillor. He is enshrined at Chungnyeolsa in Namwon, and his writing is the Yongamjip.
He is a seventh-generation descendant of Prince of Jangheung Chungjeong-gong Ma Cheon-mok and a sixth-generation descendant of Ma Ban, founder of the Hyeongam-gong branch and magistrate of Gurye. His younger brother Ma Eung-jeong served as Gwangneung Chambong and died at the Battle of Yongseong in 1597, being posthumously made Chamchan. His parents' names were not confirmed. This rests on Korean Wikipedia, which names the death place only as Namwon, so no more specific fortress is given. It is notable that brothers fell together in the second invasion. See also the Hyeongam-gong branch on the Jangheung Ma page.
