Life & career

Kim Do-gyu (1885–1967), from Boseong in South Jeolla Province, joined the righteous army when An Gyu-hong rose up at Dongsosan in Boseong in February 1908. He distinguished himself in the Battle of Bakgol in Boseong and was promoted to vice-commander, and at the Battle of Unwolchi in Dongbok he used cannon fire to inflict heavy losses on Japanese troops.

In October of that year he also won engagements at Byeongchi and Jinsan by striking the supply lines of the Japanese garrison at Suncheon. After An Gyu-hong was captured and the unit disbanded, he withdrew from public activity.
