Life & career

Kim Hyeon-gyu (金顯奎), shortly after the 1905 Eulsa Treaty, served under Yi Gang-nyeon, chief of staff of the Gangwon righteous army, taking charge of the southern Gangwon region. Based at Bulyeongsa Temple in Uljin, he recruited and trained fighters together with Gwon Yong-ha of Bonghwa, Yun Yong-taek of Gongju, and Nam Pil-eon of Jeongseon.

After he detained his deputy commander Ju Nak-jo for diverting provisions and stirring factional strife, he was killed in 1906 by a guard Ju had bribed.
