Kim Sang-seong (1703-1755), praised as a child prodigy for an essay he wrote at age thirteen, topped the special civil examination in 1723 and went on to hold a wide range of senior posts, including provincial governor of Gyeongsang in 1744 and finally Minister of Personnel in 1755.
Skilled in both literature and painting, he toured the Gwandong region (present-day Gangwon) and produced the album Gwandong Sipgyeongcheop, combining poetry and landscape painting—a notable example of the "true-view" (jingyeong) literati culture that flourished in eighteenth-century Joseon.
