Kim Tae-jip studied economics at Waseda University and served as a communications inspector in the Korean Empire's Communications Bureau. He later became a businessman and local notable in Gyeongseong and Gyeonggi Province before serving, in the closing years of Japanese rule, as a Central Advisory Council councilor and a member of the Korea Wartime Patriotic Corps (Joseon Imjeon Bogukdan).
