Kim Yul (金聿, 1882-1908) led righteous army forces in the Naju and Hampyeong areas of South Jeolla Province together with his elder brother Kim Tae-won (金泰元, also known as Kim Jun/金準). In 1907 he joined the Honam Changui Hoemaengso formed by Gi Sam-yeon.
On January 22, 1908, he and his brother led some 400 fighters in an attack on the Hampyeong police substation, killing the Japanese officer Hatano. After Gi Sam-yeon was captured and executed in February of that year, the brothers continued the resistance around Gwangju; Kim Tae-won died in battle at Adeungsan on April 25, and Kim Yul was subsequently martyred as well.
The government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Independence Medal, in 1995.
