Life & career

Han Myeong-hoe (韓明澮, 1415–1487) was a civil official and powerful minister spanning the reigns of Kings Sejo through Seongjong of Joseon, with the art name Apgujeong (狎鷗亭). He led the Gyeyu Coup (Gyeyu Jeongnan), aiding Grand Prince Suyang (King Sejo) in seizing power.

Over the reigns of Sejo, Yejong, and Seongjong he held the highest offices, including Chief State Councillor (Yeonguijeong), standing at the center of the Merit Subject (Hun-gu) faction. His two daughters became, respectively, the queen of King Yejong (Queen Jangsun) and the queen of King Seongjong (Queen Gonghye), making him a father-in-law to the royal house. After his death he was posthumously punished during the Gapja Purge but was later rehabilitated.

Descendants

His two daughters became queens of Kings Yejong and Seongjong.
