Han Ran (韓蘭) is the founding ancestor of the Cheongju Han clan. He is said to have been a distant descendant of Uryang (友諒), who is handed down as a descendant of Gija, and to have based himself at Sangdang (上黨, present-day Cheongju).
When Wang Geon set out to subjugate Gyeon Hwon, Han Ran accompanied the campaign and distinguished himself in the unification of the Three Han, rising to Samjungdaegwang Munha Taewi (三重大匡門下太尉) and being enrolled as a Founding Merit Subject Painted on the Wall (Gaeguk Byeoksang Gongsin). For this reason his descendants took Cheongju as their ancestral seat.
His descendants took Cheongju as their ancestral seat and carried on as one of the leading families of the Three Han.
