Lee Jong-geon (1906–1960) of the Gwangju Lee clan, born in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, went into exile in China in 1928 and joined the Korean National Alliance in Beijing in 1931 before moving to Shanghai, where he served in the Korean Residents' Association security corps. He was a member of the Provisional Legislative Assembly of the Korean Provisional Government from 1931 to 1933, and later served in the Korean Youth Party, the Korean National Revolutionary Party, the Korean Volunteers Corps, and the Korean Liberation Army.
He returned to Korea in 1946 but, amid the postliberation political turmoil and the Cold War, was unable to fully realize the ideals he had pursued during the independence movement before his death in 1960. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Independence Medal, in 1977.
