Early Joseon civil official who served as Chief State Councillor during King Seongjong's reign

Yi Geuk-bae was an early Joseon official whose courtesy name was Gyeombo. He was honored as a merit subject for aiding King Sejo's accession and held key posts including governor of Pyeongan Province and Minister of War.
Under King Seongjong he rose through the office of chief state councillor on the right to become Chief State Councillor in 1493 and was enfeoffed as Prince Gwangneung. He was regarded as an incorruptible and prudent statesman and was given the posthumous title Ikpyeong.
His tomb stands in Amsa-dong, Gangdong District, Seoul, forming a twin mound with that of his wife of the Gyeongju Choe clan and flanked by stone civil and military officials. A spirit-path stele inscribed by the noted calligrapher and Minister of Rites Shin Jong-ho was erected there in 1496, the year after his death.
