Lee Jung-yeol (1869–1928) was born on June 18, 1869 in Hyeonyeong-ri, Bugil-myeon, Iksan-gun, North Jeolla Province, and used the pen name Jwaam. As head of the Iri district of Cheondoism, he joined fellow Cheondoist leaders Park Yeong-jin and Jeong Dae-won on March 3, 1919 to plan the Iksan mass demonstrations, helping spread the protests across the entire county.
He was arrested while distributing copies of the Declaration of Independence and sentenced to eight months in prison. He was posthumously awarded a Presidential Commendation in 1992.
