Yi Su-won (1874–1964), from Daesa-ri, Anpyeong-myeon, Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province, led an independence demonstration in his village on March 15, 1919, climbing the hill behind the village with about a hundred villagers to shout for independence.
He was arrested and sentenced to ten months in prison by the Daegu District Court on May 13, 1919; his appeal was rejected and the sentence finalized on June 18.
