Jang Do-yong (1923–2012) was a South Korean military officer. Born in Yongcheon, North Pyongan Province, he graduated from Sinuiju High School and later from Toyo University in Japan in 1944.
While serving as Army Chief of Staff under the Chang Myon government, he briefly became the first chairman of the Supreme Council for National Reconstruction after the May 16, 1961 coup, amid suspicion that he had passively allowed it to proceed; he soon stepped down and was indicted on "counter-revolutionary" charges, though his sentence was suspended and he was released.
He subsequently moved to the United States, where he worked as a scholar, including at the University of Michigan, before retiring.
