Jang Jin-hong (1895–1930), assisted in 1927 by a Japanese bomb expert named Horikiri and using thirty sticks of dynamite purchased from a Japanese supplier, built a bomb that he had delivered to and detonated at the Daegu branch of the Bank of Chosen on October 18, 1927.
He fled to Japan afterward but was captured in February 1929 and imprisoned in Daegu, where his death sentence was upheld through three rounds of appeal. On July 31, 1930, the day before his scheduled execution, he took his own life in prison with an overdose of sleeping pills.
