Mun Ik (文翼) was a civil official during the reign of King Sukjong of Goryeo, and the figure whom the Nampyeong Mun clan takes as its first-generation restoring ancestor (jungsijo). He is regarded as the earliest real, historically attested figure of the family, appearing in epigraphic records.
His father was a military officer of the Two Guards and Six Garrisons (2군 6위), and Mun Ik passed through offices in the Secretariat-Chancellery (Jungseo Munha-seong) to advance as a civil official. By the generation of his three sons—Mun Gong-in, Mun Gong-won, and Mun Gong-yu—the family rose greatly: Mun Gong-yu became Founding Viscount of Nampyeong County, Mun Gong-in became Pyeongjangsa (Chancellor), and Mun Gong-won became an enshrined merit subject.
The family rose greatly in the generation of his three sons, Mun Gong-in, Mun Gong-won, and Mun Gong-yu.
