Mun Ik-jeom (文益漸, 1329–1398) was a civil official of the late Goryeo period. On his return from an envoy mission to Yuan China, he brought back cotton seeds and, together with his father-in-law Jeong Cheon-ik, succeeded in cultivating them, greatly transforming clothing life in Korea.
The spread of cotton cloth (mumyeong) dramatically improved the fabric situation of the common people. For this achievement he was posthumously enfeoffed in later times as Marquis Bumin (富民侯, "Enricher of the People") and granted a posthumous title, and he is honored as the symbolic figure of cotton's introduction.
