Life & career

Yang Seong-ji (梁誠之) was a civil official and scholar active during the reigns of Kings Sejong through Seongjong of the Joseon dynasty. After serving as a scholar of the Hall of Worthies (Jiphyeonjeon), he held such posts as Inspector-General (Daesaheon) and Grand Academician of the Office of Special Advisers (Hongmungwan Daejehak), leaving behind vast writings and policy proposals spanning geography, history, national defense, and rites. He was especially renowned for proposals on land and defense, including the compilation of the Dongguk Jido (Map of the Eastern Country), and is often called "the Zhuge Liang of Joseon." His pen name (ho) was Nuljae (訥齋).
