Founding ancestor of the Namwon Yang clan

Yang U-ryang (梁友諒) is the founding ancestor of the Namwon Yang clan. Having branched off from the Jeju Yang clan, he was enfeoffed as the Lord of Namwon (南原府伯, Namwonbubaek) during the reign of King Gyeongdeok of Silla, and so his descendants took Namwon (南原) as their clan seat (bon-gwan). For this reason, the Namwon Yang lineage honors Yang U-ryang as the ancestor of their newly bestowed surname (改賜姓祖, gaesaseongjo).
His descendants took Namwon as their clan seat and carried on the lineage through such branches as the Byeongbugong, Yongseonggun, and Daebanggun lines.
