Yi Eung-chun was a Yeongnam descendant of the Cheongan Yi clan who raised a militia in the Imjin War. Chungcheong Ilbo says he died at Gaeunpo after raising a militia and was posthumously made Vice-Minister of Military Affairs; Namu Wiki says he raised about 300 men including his younger brother, son and settlers, fought repeatedly and fell at Gaeunpo.
The Yangsan encyclopedia gives his pen name as Toesajae and mentions him as an ancestor of Yi Je-han, who founded the Yangsan line. Gaeunpo is a port near Ulsan; this may link to the clan villages in Ulju, but the connection was not verified.
His hanja, life dates and the exact time of his death were not confirmed. The posthumous title and martyrdom are what clan and local sources report and were not cross-checked in state records.
